And the mechanical engineer realizes there’s structure (that’s been there for months) they didn’t know was there...
...my first project acting as Project Architect is going great /s
Fuck

i’m working with a structural engineer. We’re having trouble fitting a header between the existing floor and the top of a new door. I ask if we use an 8' (prodosed was 10') if it would reduce the size of the LVL. No its the same... I ask how is that possible if we’re reducing the span by 20%. He goes ooooo I thought u wanted to use an 8' tall door, you want 8' wide.
Why the fuck would i make the door taller if we’re already too tight on height.

This is sort of par for the course for me.
Usually it involves me asking why is “X” here? And the the answer is “Whoops, didn’t mean to put X there”.
But I can’t complain since this is usually my answer as well to the drawing checker

Managing projects sucks.

I agree with your picture. I have no clue about engineering.

The surveyor on one of my wife’s projects missed a 150 yr old oak tree in the middle of campus, so the civil put the sewer line right through it. Nobody realized anything was wrong until the contractor brought out a chain saw and started cutting the tree down. There were people literally running out to stop him.

Change my mind.

Doing that and managing an active production process also sucks, in a sort of masochistic way (since I like it). Great pay for right out of college but they make you earn it.

Just bid a set of GMP drawings where the architect had not coordinated the structurals and the architecturals... hard to get accurate pricing that way. Nobody is given enough time to do a good job in the construction industry, used to be that you got complete drawings and now we just write 200 RFIs asking what the intent is with seemingly everything.

I’m not built for that kind of work.

Yeah, that’s on the contractor too... if the tree isn’t shown, then the question is to be raised. Especially since the removal of the tree will cost money as well, so they typically pick up on that stuff.
